Takween ICD is seeking a motivated Junior Researcher to join our Urban Studies and Research Unit. This role is ideal for an early-career professional who will support the unit’s mission to deliver innovative and actionable research that addresses urban challenges in Egypt and beyond. The ideal candidate will have a relevant academic background and a strong interest in urban planning, urban design, and climate resilience, with the ability to contribute across fieldwork, mapping, visualization, workshop facilitation, and report writing.

The primary role is to provide support to Takween-ICD urban development program in areas of research, documentation, design, execution, and communication activities. The Architect will be engaged under the supervision of the Senior Architect in different project phases including mobilizations, assessment, planning and implementation. The Architect is expected to work in a range of fields of interventions including urban upgrading, participatory design of public open space interventions, architectural design, and detailed urban planning/redevelopment of existing urban areas.
The Architect will work with in-house technical teams and external consultants - under the supervision of Senior Architect - to produce full and integrated architectural/urban design packages (from concept to tendering stages) in areas of architectural design, and architectural/urban conservation of heritage sites. The Architect will be responsible with the team for the following:
Develop and verify adaptive reuse / preliminary intervention plans for heritage sites prior to any conservation activity.
Development of multidisciplinary technical architectural packages (plans, sections, elevations, BoQs and 3D Models) and establishment of partnerships to conserve, rehabilitate and reuse heritage sites and buildings.
Development of intervention plans and requests for Proposals (RfPs) and evaluation/selection of qualified subcontractors.
Implementation/Overseeing the implementation of the approved interventions utilizing international best practices.
Handing over the sites to the relevant GoE entity and produce site handing over report.
Conduct post-occupancy surveys for site/building and documentation of the process.
