Takween ICD is seeking a passionate and skilled Urban Planner to join our Urban Studies and Research Unit. The Urban Planner will play a key role in supporting the unit's mission to deliver innovative and actionable research that addresses urban challenges in Egypt and beyond. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background and practical experience in urban planning in Egypt, with the ability to contribute to planning analysis, development strategies and action plans.
Key Result Areas
Contributing to the preparation of urban planning deliverables, including area profiles, urban assessments, spatial strategies, development scenarios, and action plans.
Conducting spatial and planning analysis (land use, mobility, public services and utilities, public space, housing, etc.) and translating findings into clear planning recommendations.
Supporting fieldwork and urban surveys, stakeholder interviews/FGDs, and documentation of findings.
Developing supporting planning materials such as maps, diagrams, infographics for reports and stakeholder engagement.
Coordinating closely with GIS experts to define required spatial datasets, validate analysis, and ensure high-quality maps, indicators, and spatial outputs are integrated into planning deliverables.
Preparing high-quality reports, policy briefs, and presentations in Arabic and English, ensuring clarity, structure, and evidence-based recommendations.
Supporting and/or facilitating participatory activities (workshops, consultations, validation meetings), including preparation of materials, co-facilitation, note-taking, and synthesis of outcomes.
Coordinating closely with the project team and partners to meet deliverable timelines and support quality assurance across planning outputs.
Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Urban Design/Planning, Urban Studies, Architecture, or a related field.
Skills
• 5 - 10 years of professional experience in urban planning, local development, or related urban development projects in Egypt.
• Strong report-writing and documentation skills in both Arabic and English, with demonstrated experience preparing planning deliverables (plans, profiles, and presentations).
• Experience working on projects related to local urban planning, urban upgrading, or climate resilience is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of Egypt’s urban planning context, including coordination with relevant entities (e.g., governorates, local administration, GOPP or relevant planning authorities) and familiarity with planning processes and data requirements.
Software
Microsoft Office, GIS (preferred), and Adobe Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) is a plus.
