Takween is actively seeking for Senior Researcher/Ecotourism, the Senior Researcher will be responsible for conducting research to identify opportunities and challenges to revive the ecotourism in Egypt as well as collaborating with stakeholders to tackle research and surveys findings in order to achieve project’s outputs.

Key Result Areas

Writing, Editing, and Researching a Policy Brief on Ecotourism

  • Conduct policy research on the potentials and challenges of ecotourism (nature-based, rural, and/or sustainable tourism) in Egypt;

  • Survey past and current experiences of ecotourism in Egypt, as well as best practices in the Middle East and worldwide;

  • Identify and categorize stakeholders, experts, and governing bodies;

  • Map academic research, evidence-based development literature, and international organizations’ recommendations relevant to ecotourism and its intersections with broader issues of governance, socio-economic development, equity, gender and environmental sustainability;

  • Provide support for data collection, data processing, and/or analysis, data visualization, and research communication;

  • Write up a policy brief and supplementary policy memos on the researchfindings.

Project Planning and Management

  • Collaborate with project directors to develop project deliverables and required resources;

  • Assist with tracking and reporting of project milestones;

  • Liaison with project partners to monitor and meet project goals.

Communication and Outreach

  • Prepare and disseminate projects’ outputs and other promotional materials. Social media skills appreciated.

  • Network with other experts, politicians, government officials, and academics to assist with research.

  • Assist the Takween team in organizing an expert roundtable and an online seminar in January to discuss research findings and project’s outputs.

Requirements

Education, Training, and/or Experience Required:

  • Master’s degree required except in exceptional cases with considerable work and research experience in Egypt or the Middle East;

  • Three to five years of research experience related to ecotourism, environmental planning, local economic development, or international development;

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and produce written materials in a timely fashion. Ability to write clearly and concisely in English and work both collaboratively and independently;

  • Arabic language proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with the development of policy analysis and policy briefs.

Skills

  • Fluency in oral and written Arabic and English is a must.

  • Excellent analytical and writing skills in Arabic and English.

  • Strong interpersonal communications skills.
