Takween is actively seeking a seasoned, highly creative, and innovative Project Manager who will contribute to helping Takween promoting the City of Esna as a unique and prime tourist destination. the project focuses on two main components: a) increasing economic benefits to the local community from tourism development activities through improved employment and business opportunities and better revenue retention at the local level. b) documenting what makes Esna a unique destination in understanding its cultural heritage.
The project aims to capitalize on Esna’s diverse cultural heritage assets for the city to stand out as a prime tourist destination that offers a unique visitor experience. Through identification, documentation, conservation, and design activities – all focusing on tangible and intangible cultural heritage aspects of the city – we aim to develop an innovative and creative model that can be replicated in other places in Egypt.

Key Result Areas

Program Management /Responsibilities

  • Responsible to organize the project activities in accordance with what has been proposed and approved. 

  • Ensuring we meet the objectives and goals of the project proposal.

  • Implementing and managing changes and interventions to ensure project goals are achieved.

  • Meet with the different stakeholders to make communication transparent regarding project issues, decisions, and services.

  • Analyze program risks

  • Overall monitoring and ensuring that we meet all donor requirements.

Intangible Heritage

  • Identify a team and work on the process that will be used to identify and document intangible cultural heritage

  • Define the protentional intangible heritage products, that they remain authentic to the heritage of Esna and how we can use this to promote Esna as a unique tourist destination

  • Work with the team to showcase the outcomes of the study which is both interactive and innovative for visitors

Retail Tourism

  • Design the retail tourism project in collaboration with the Economic Consultant

  • Identify through a competitive process the selection of businesses for this pilot

  • Carry out an assessment for a baseline of the vendors business and soft skills

Administrative and Financial Management

  • Monitor and approve in cooperation with the Financial Department all administrative and financial processes and procedures related to the project’s relevant activities including procurement procedures and approval of contracts and consultants’ payments to monitor and control expenditure - all in compliance with Takween and the donor’s policies and procedures

Communication and Reporting

  • Track and report to the Chief of Party in coordination with the Grant and Reporting Officer and the Financial Department technical and financial progress of the project-related activities through production and tracking of time schedules and financial tracking tools to ensure the preparation and timely submission of progress and final reports

  • Attend and conduct regular coordination meetings with project staff, consultants, donors, clients, and beneficiaries as required; and report on a regular basis progress of activities to the Chief of Party to ensure the timely and coordinated implementation of project activities

  • Collaborate with the project donors’ communication teams to promote the project activities and to ensure compliance with the donors’ branding and marking requirements

Requirements

Qualification

  • Graduate degree in Social Sciences, Cultural Management, Economics or relevant degree

Experience

  • 7-15 years of experience in program management and implementation

  • Experience working with communities

  • Experience in Economic development programs is an advantage

  • Some understanding of the cultural tourism and hospitality sector and its ecosystem (on the local, national, and international levels) in Egypt desirable

Skills

  • Fluency in oral and written Arabic and English is a must

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills and ability to work independently on a wide range of assignments/tasks

  • Excellent presentation, negotiation, and verbal / written communication skills

  • Critical thinking skills - able to understand situations and problems, identify cause and effect relationships and develop effective strategies

  • Good intercultural skills and ability to work in a multicultural team

  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
