About the job

The Senior Structural Engineer will support the design and construction project teams in structural assessment and design areas. He/she should have significant experience in heritage conservation and construction projects. The Senior Structural Engineer will develop structural assessment and remedial plans and assist in the supervision of the implementation of site activities from beginning to end, ensuring that the project is completed with the highest quality levels. Understanding the structural aspects of conservation and construction trades and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment is essential. The Senior Structural Engineer reports directly to the Design Director and will play an instrumental role in assisting in all structural engineering-related aspects.

Key Result Areas

Conduct condition assessments of historical buildings and project sites to identify structural defects and vulnerabilities

  • Work with the external Structural Consultant to develop a plan for the condition assessment.

  • Collect data and information on the building's structural condition.

  • Analyze the data and information to identify defects and vulnerabilities.

  • Prepare a report on the condition assessment findings.

  • Develop remedial work and new intervention options and costs to address structural defects.

  • Work with the external Structural Consultant to develop a range of remedial work and new intervention options.

  • Assess the costs of each remedial work and new intervention option.

  • Make recommendations for cost savings as needed.

  • Prepare a report on the remedial work and new intervention options and costs.

Manage major and minor design work from beginning to end, including preparing calculations, design drawings, and specifications

  • Work with the external Structural Consultant to develop the design of the remedial work and new interventions.

  • Prepare calculations, design drawings, and specifications for the remedial work and new interventions in compliance with all applicable building codes and regulations.

  • Manage the construction of the remedial work and new interventions.

  • Consult with other professionals, such as architects, historians, and archaeologists, to ensure the work is compatible with the building's heritage value.

 Perform construction administration tasks to ensure that the work is carried out following the design and specifications

  • Visit the construction site to monitor the progress of the work.

  • Review the work to ensure it is carried out according to the design and specifications.

  • Ensure that the work is carried out in a way that preserves the historical character of the building.

  • Issue instructions to the contractor/project implementation team as needed.

Support the work of other project engineers and architects

  • Provide guidance and support to other project engineers and architects.

  • Review their work to ensure that it is of a high standard.

  • Share knowledge and experience with less experienced engineers and architects.

 Assist with proposal preparation and contract reviews

  • Review proposals for remedial work and new interventions and provide input.

  • Review contracts for remedial work and new interventions and ensure they align with the scope of work.

Prepare technical reports of the work performed

  • Prepare technical reports that document the work that has been performed.

  • The reports should include the scope of work, the methods used, the results, and any recommendations.

Requirements

Qualification:

  • Advanced university degree in Civil or Construction engineering and management.

Experience :

  • 15-20 yearsof experience in structural engineering.

Knowledge :

  • Familiarity with the design and supervision of structural works in historical contexts and new intervention projects.

Skills:

  • Arabic and English proficiency is a must.

  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.), AutoCAD, and structural design software.

  • Strong interpersonal communications skills.

  • Proven track record of critical thinking, problem-solving, and working independently.

Competencies:

  • Ability to work under high pressure and carry out simultaneous multi-tasks.

  • Self-motivated with high leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Creativity and ability to seek and explore innovative solutions.

  • Teamwork abilities and working collaboratively with other stakeholders and staff members.

Notes:

  • The Senior Structural Engineer will work in Cairo and Esna City – Luxor; accommodation and transportation in case of travel will be covered.

  • The Senior Structural Engineer will be working in a harsh environment and structurally dilapidated buildings.
