About the job
The Project Manager will oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Women-led Wood Workshop and Showroom project in Esna (Luxor Governorate.) This initiative aims to empower local community members, particularly women, through technical skills training and establishing a sustainable social enterprise that enhances tourism revenue capture by boosting inclusive economic opportunities in the woodwork sector. The Project Manager will ensure project activities are executed efficiently, meeting the set objectives within the timeframe and budget while ensuring sustainability and gender equality.
The Project Manager is expected to achieve the following key outcomes:
• 100 community members trained in technical woodwork and business skills.
• Establishment of a functional women-led wood workshop and showroom.
• Creation of 10-12 local jobs, with women filling 60% of these positions.
• Development and operationalization of a sustainable Social Enterprise (LLC).
• Increased income generation and tourism revenue capture in Esna through product sales.
Key Result Areas
Job Responsibilities:
Project Planning and Implementation
Lead project setup: Develop and oversee a detailed project plan, ensuring alignment with the goals to improve tourism revenue capture and bridge the gender gap in the cultural tourism sector.
Oversee technical training:Coordinate the design and execution of workshops that provide technical woodwork and business skills to 100 community members, ensuring at least 60% are women. This includes managing the delivery of workshops and ensuring participant engagement.
Workshop and showroom establishment: Manage the establishment of the women-led wood workshop and showroom, including identifying, acquiring, and refurbishing appropriate spaces and equipping them with necessary tools and safety measures.
Business model development: Lead and facilitate the establishment of a locally based Social Enterprise, including developing the business model, organizational structure, and mentorship of local partners.
Production oversight: Oversee the production, marketing, and sales of woodwork handicrafts, ensuring that products meet quality and safety standards.
Team Management and Capacity Building
Team management: Supervise and coordinate a multidisciplinary team, including trainers, product designers, local partners, and support staff.
Progress meetings: Conduct regular team meetings and ensure clear communication regarding objectives, timelines, and deliverables.
Capacity building: Facilitate capacity building of local community members and partners through ongoing technical and business skills training.
Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning (MEL) and Reporting
MEL setup: In collaboration with the MEL Officer, set up and manage a robust monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) framework to track the project’s performance against key indicators such as training completion, revenue generation, and job creation.
Data collection and analysis: Collaborate with the MEL Officer to ensure high-quality data collection for reporting and evaluation.
Performance monitoring: Track the progress of project activities against indicators, including the number of participants trained, jobs created, and revenue generated by the social enterprise.
Progress reporting: Prepare and submit periodic progress reports (quarterly, annual), including technical activities, financial aspects, and challenges to Takween management, donors, and other relevant stakeholders.
Project documentationand learning: Maintain proper project records and ensure that lessons learned and project outcomes are well documented and used to improve ongoing activities.
Budget and Financial Management
Budget management: Manage the project budget, ensuring that all activities are executed within the allocated budget and according to the financial plan.
Budget monitoring:Monitor and track expenses, produce regular budget vs. actual reports in collaboration with the Finance Department, and adjust financial strategies when needed.
Financial reporting: Review and approve financial reports, including tracking expenses and preparing financial forecasts.
Financial compliance:Coordinate with Takween’s Finance Department to ensure compliance with Takween and donor-approved policies, procedures, and financial reporting requirements.
Stakeholder Management and Communication
Engage local stakeholders: Liaise with community leaders, Esna City Council, and other local partners to ensure smooth implementation and alignment with local needs.
Project representation: Represent the project at local, regional, and international events to promote its objectives and outcomes.
Conduct awareness activities: Coordinate awareness-raising sessions about the project and the benefits of the established Social Enterprise.
Support gender inclusion: Promote active participation by women in all project components, ensuring a minimum of 60% representation in workshops, employment, and partnerships.
Risk Management
Identify risks: Monitor potential project risks related to economic fluctuations, potential participant dropout, regulatory noncompliance, or internal conflicts within the Social Enterprise.
Health, Safety, and Environment (HS&E):Ensure that HS&E protocols are strictly followed within the workshop and showroom.
Implement mitigation strategies: Address risks by designing corrective actions, such as offering participation incentives, conducting mentorship programs, promptly addressing arising HS&E aspects, and establishing conflict resolution mechanisms.
Marketing and Sales
Brand and marketing strategy: Lead the development of an authentic brand and marketing plan for the workshop and showroom, including setting up social media platforms for product promotion and sales.
Market research: Oversee the completion of market assessments to inform product designs and business strategies.
Requirements
Qualification:
Bachelor's degree in Project Management, Business Administration, Social Sciences, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
Experience:
10-15 years of project management experience, preferably in development projects related to community empowerment, cultural heritage, or social enterprises.
Knowledge:
Familiarity with gender empowerment approaches, enterprise development, cultural heritage and tourism, handicrafts sector, marketing, business model development donor-funded projects.
Skills:
Arabic and English proficiency is a must.
Excellent working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and project management software such as Microsoft Project.
Strong leadership, team management, and organizational skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Competencies:
Proven ability to manage large projects, budgets, and complex stakeholder relationships.
Experience working with international donors, managing and tracking budgets.
Proven track record of critical thinking, creativity, innovation, problem-solving, and working independently, requiring only general guidance oncomplex issues.
Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and carry out simultaneous multi-tasks.
Teamwork abilities and work collaboratively with other stakeholders and staff members.
